ConocoPhillips is one of the world’s leading providers of technology solutions for the vehicles of today and the energy systems of tomorrow. Backed by modern research facilities and a strong tradition of innovation, we develop technologies that help oil field developers, producers, refiners and manufacturers achieve their clean fuel objectives and upgrade bottom-of-the-barrel hydrocarbons whilst improving reliability and enhancing profitability.
From providing support for seismic interpretation technologies to gasoline sulfur removal processes and valuable catalysts for enhanced fuel-cell operation, we’re preparing our upstream partners, refiners and consumers for a cleaner, more beneficial future.
A Leader in LNG Another clear demonstration of our commitment to clean energy is the work we’re undertaking to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to China. ConocoPhillips is an international LNG innovator, involved in everything from natural gas production to liquefaction, shipping and regasification. The ConocoPhillips Optimized Cascade SM process has been successfully employed at the company’s Kenai, Alaska liquefaction plant for more than 35 years and this facility continues to serve as a global model for safe, efficient and environmentally friendly operations.
This technology has been licensed to LNG projects as far afield as Egypt, Australia, Trinidad and Tobago and Equatorial Guinea. But we won’t stop there. We’re currently pursuing the construction of additional liquefaction facilities in Nigeria, Qatar, Venezuela and Russia.
ConocoPhillips currently co-owns two LNG tankers that operate between Alaska and Japan and has even designed a new class of state-of-the-art LNG super tanker. We maintain a 50% interest in the general partnership managing Freeport LNG, a regasification terminal under construction in Texas, USA. And we’re hoping to secure two further terminals on the Gulf Coast and West Coast of America, currently advancing though the initial regulatory processes. In Europe, our targets include LNG import terminals in Teesside, UK and Eemshaven in the Netherlands.
In early 2006 the ConocoPhillips liquefaction facility in Darwin, Australia carried its first LNG cargo. The project liquefies gas from the Bayu-Undan field in the Timor Sea for shipment to customers in Japan.
