An important part of our business is the philanthropic work we undertake in our community, and education and youth programs are at the heart of it. In fact, more than half of ConocoPhillips’ annual contributions are directed to projects that support the learning and development of China’s young people.
University Programs
ConocoPhillips is dedicated to nurturing the industry’s young talent. In 2001 we launched a program of scholarships and technical innovation funds at five major petroleum universities in China: China Petroleum University (Beijing), China University of Geosciences, China University of Petroleum (Huadong), Southwest Petroleum University and Daqing Petroleum Institute.
So far we have donated more than RMB 1.8 million to the program, which has benefited over 1,000 bright young students.
Search for Solutions We’re working hard to ensure a cleaner world for the next generation, and that includes making sure that China’s children understand environmental issues. Since 1988, ConocoPhillips has donated more than RMB 4 million to helping elementary and secondary students become better environmental citizens.
Working in partnership with the State Environmental Protection Bureau of China and Municipal Environmental Protection Bureaus, we educate students on the environmental conditions that affect their lives. Children also enjoy some hands-on experience through field studies, experiments and workshops where they can creatively express their concerns and ideas.
Yuanping Special Education SchoolIn early 2006, we donated teaching equipment and other educational materials worth RMB 57,327 to Yuanping Special Education School, the only facility in Shenzhen for students with developmental or physical disabilities.
Xijiang Oilfield Hope School The construction of Xijiang Oilfield Hope School began in 1997, thanks to a combined donation of RMB 380,000 from the Xijiang Joint Management Committee and the employees. The school now provides hope for the future to its 60 students and 12 teachers.
