At ConocoPhillips, volunteerism is an important aspect of our overall Corporate Social Responsibility program. It's part of ConocoPhillips' strong commitment to building a legacy of trust and enhancing quality of life in the communities where we live and work.
As a volunteer activity, trash clean up at the Badaling International Friendship Forest (BIFF) has become a traditional event for ConocoPhillips China. Twice a year in the spring and autumn season, trash clean-up volunteer trips are organized to clean up the park and ensure that it retains its beauty.
On March, 2008, Xijiang employees planted 100 trees at Nanshan Hill, Shekou, Shenzhen. This is the fourth tree planting activity since 2007. In year 2007, Xijiang employees donated RMB 39,000.00 and planted 100 trees.
In year 2006, ConocoPhillips Beijing employees donated clothes, toys and money to Shunyi Orphanage. From then on, employees often pay visits to those children.
Employee Volunteer Grant Program ConocoPhillips encourage its employees in giving back and make a positive difference in their communities. The Employee Volunteer Grant Program (EVGP) helps ConocoPhillips employees who initiate and organize their own charity projects and events, providing them the financial and practical assistance they need to make things happen.
Jelly Jam is an environmental education program for primary school children. The interactive teaching activities help enhance the awareness on environmental protection among the young generation. This has been a popular volunteer program among our employees.
In 2007, through the help of Xijiang employees, Shenzhen Starlight Autistic Rehabitation School benefited from a visiting expert from the US on training of special treatment and care for children with autistic disease. The employees not only made connection of the expert with the school, but also involved in hands on work in helping facilitating the training sessions.
Charitable Contributions Matching Program
On May 12, 2008, the devastating earthquake of 8.0 Richter scale hit Wenchuan. ConocoPhillips and its employees responded immediately by making a corporate donation of RMB 2 million. It also launched an employee donation and company matching campaign. 741 employees from China made a total donation of RMB 565, 898. ConocoPhillips made a one on one match of employees’ total donation. A total of RMB 3.14 million is donated to China Society of Red Cross for the earthquake relief.
In 2005, RMB 50,000 was raised at a fund raising event organized by the company to support the Light and Love School, a non-profit school for migrant workers children in Beijing.
Since then, the fund raising event has become a traditional activity at the company’s Mid-Autumn Festival party each year for the past 3 years. A total of RMB 330, 000 has been raised the proceeds went to Light & Love School for rental of school facilities, improvement of basic living and studing conditions; Employee volunteers pay visits to the school and brought clothes, shoes, books and food supplies etc. to the students.
Contributions by COPC Staff In 2004 an employee initiative was launched to help underprivileged students in the Ninglang County of Yunnan province in helping the children finish their primary and middle school education. More than 70 ConocoPhilllips employees and contractors have so far given their financial support to 140 students.
