ConocoPhillips China

Environment

Our goal is to operate our businesses in a safe and environmentally friendly manner causing harm to no one, be they employees, contractors, customers, neighbors or communities. As a natural resource company, we know the importance of protecting the air, land and water upon which we all depend.

The Badaling International Friendship Forest, located at the foot of the world-famous Badaling Great Wall, is an environmental park exclusively sponsored by ConocoPhillips. The Park was initiated, designed, planned and developed by the U.S.-China Environmental Fund, and developed by the Badaling Special Zone Administration and Beijing Badaling Tourism General Company.

The objective of the park is to create a harmonious environment that supplements the Badaling Great Wall in protecting and prominently displaying the Wall’s historical heritage, cultural essence and ecological environment.

The park lies between 630 and 800 meters above sea level, covering an area of 133 hectares. The area is located in the monsoon temperate zone with the four seasons of the year providing a beautiful and varied landscape. Trails around the park are lined with signs telling the history and culture of the Wall and teaching visitors about the crucial importance of environmental conservation.

The BIFF, which is free to visit, provides not only an effective way to preserve the ecological environment of the Badaling scenic area, but also a place for visitors to relax and enjoy the splendor of the Great Wall.

ConocoPhillips' initial contribution to the BIFF construction was RMB 5 million (approximately USD 618,000). ConocoPhillips is providing fund each year for maintenance since it opened in 2003. ConocoPhillips’ sponsorship of the BIFF is a source of pride for our employees and is part of the company’s commitment to corporate accountability, environmental protection, and community involvement. ConocoPhillips China employees and their families regularly visit the BIFF for tree planting and clean ups.
