Our Response

COPC RESPONSE

Throughout the two incidents, COPC, with the supervision of CNOOC, quickly took steps to identify problems and mitigate impact. COPC response efforts have included:

  • Notifying the authorities and our co-venturer as soon as incidents were discovered.
  • Implementing sealing measures to plug the original seep points and installing additional containment devices over the original sources as an extra measure of environmental protection.
  • Launching a phased depressurization of the Peng Lai 19-3 field to manage subsurface pressure.
  • Developing a revised marine Environmental Impact Assessment and revising the Overall Development Program.
  • Executing shoreline surveillance, sampling and general clean-up program to monitor, and protect the shoreline of Bohai Bay.
