Successful Surface Casing Installation at PL19-3 WHP-C

On September 25, COPC completed the successful installation of surface casings in all 40 slots/56 wells on WHP-C. Through the application of new technology and continually optimizing the operations, all work was completed ahead of schedule and critically, with no safety or environmental incidents.
On the single well slots, the new technology of Drilling with Casing was used. This produced installation times of eight hours, a 75 percent reduction in time compared with Phase 1 operations. On 16 of the well slots, two strings of casing were installed in the same slot.

Again operations were successful taking 24 hours for each slot, which was 50 percent ahead of our planned target. This technique of putting two strings of casing in the same slot is being used on a large development for the first time in Bohai Bay, and allows a total of 56 wells to be drilled from the 40 slots on the platform, significantly reducing the size of the platform.

This performance was only achieved by great teamwork between all involved within the Drilling & Completions group, logistics group and service companies. This experience gained on WHP-A will now be further applied to the future wellhead platforms.
