ConocoPhillips China Donates An Additional RMB 1.435 Million to Support Diagnosis and Treatment of Children with Congenital Heart Disease

BEIJING – ConocoPhillips China today announced that that it has donated an additional RMB 1.435 million (USD 214,900) to the Love & Hope Project to support diagnosis and treatment for children with congenital heart disease from poverty-stricken families.

Congenital heart disease is one of the most common birth defects in China, especially in remote, highaltitude areas. In these areas, which tend to be less developed, residents lack medical facilities and the basic knowledge needed to diagnose and treat children suffering from congenital heart disease.

The Love & Hope Project, which ConocoPhillips China has supported since 2008, was conceived by the China Association of Social Workers (CASW) and the TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital (TICH) to fund heart surgery for newborn to 14-year-old children who suffer from congenital heart disease. The project is specifically aimed at children from severely disadvantaged families.

A portion of ConocoPhillips China’s latest pledge will be used to purchase a screening van, which will tour remote areas and provide free screening diagnosis for underprivileged children. The remainder will be used to fund treatment and surgeries.

Mark T. Wheeler, president of ConocoPhillips China said, “At ConocoPhillips, we have a long-standing commitment to engaging with communities wherever we operate. In China, we are proud to support the Love and Hope Project, which has transformed the lives of hundreds of underprivileged children with congenital heart disease, and has had a profound positive impact on their families.”

On behalf of 403 program beneficiaries, Liu Xiaocheng, president of TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital, expressed TICH’s appreciation for ConocoPhillips China’s continuous support of the project. He said, “The hospital has toured 11 provinces and regions in China, including Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Shanxi, Henan, Qinghai, Guangxi, Ningxia, Hebei, Jiangxi, Tibet and Guizhou. With the additional donation, TICH looks forward to working together with ConocoPhillips China to reach more children in more remote areas. "

Between 2008 and 2015, ConocoPhillips donated a total of RMB 5.75 million (approx. USD 1 million) to fund treatment and surgery for more than 400 severely underprivileged children born with congenital heart disease.
