Sunshine Home

Sunshine Home is a non-profit foster home funded by Mr. Wang Baijun for mentally and physically disabled children in severe need. Sunshine Home is responsible for the nursing, recovery practicing and skill training for 38 children. In 2009, 2010 and 2011 ConocoPhillips Tanggu onshore and offshore staff held a charity auction to fund a craft workshop to help sustain the Sunshine Home. RMB178,000 (US$27,800) was donated with company’s one on one matching fund. In 2010, ConocoPhillips China volunteers raised RMB10,000 (US$1,500) for the Sunshine Home in a charity craft sale from the workshop. COPC staff visit the children at Sunshine Home regularly, bringing them food and basic necessities.

Environmental Protection Activities

ConocoPhillips staff in Tanggu volunteered to initiate trash cleanup activities as part of efforts to put our beliefs on the importance of environmental protection into practice. To date, our staff has participated in cleanup efforts in a number of places all around the Bohai Bay area, including Taifeng Park, Dongjiang Bay Beach, Nandaihe Beach, and Beidaihe Beach. From 2009 to October 2013, 18 trash cleanup days were conducted and 400 staff, including family members, participated. This small effort at hands-on environmental protection had a positive influence on all the communities in which it took place.

Tanggu Nursing Home

Between 2011 and 2013, volunteers in Tanggu office visited Aixiyang Nursing Home for several times. They helped the residents plant vegetables and visited them on holidays. In 2012, staff volunteers raised RMB 76,504 (US$12,400) through the company’s charity auction to buy coal for the Home.

In May 2011, in response to the call of Tanggu Binhai Charity Forum to help children with autism, volunteers in Tanggu painted cartoon t-shirts and held a charity sale for Tianjin Dream Factory and Liu’s Institute of Child Development. 39 t-shirts were painted by 55 volunteers, including participants from the Binhai Forum, and RMB 2200 was raised. On May 27th, just before Children’s Day in China, volunteers bought stationery and other necessities, which they delivered to the two autism centers.

Fund Raising & Assistance for Children with Autism

In 2012 and 2013, COPC volunteers raised RMB 255,729 (US$41,200) to help Xiangyu Autism Children’s Home through auction and charity sale. The Xiangyu Home is the first and only non-profit organization which provides care and support to autistic children in Tanggu. The COPC funds help the Home offset nursery fees and cover salary and expensive training costs for the teachers.

Education Aid for Students in Yunnan

In spring 2010, continuous drought in South China's Yunnan Province made life for local people extremely difficult, with water shortages severe enough to threaten the basic food supplies, especially in schools. In response, ConocoPhillips China employees in Beijing and Tanggu raised RMB16,410 (US$2,400) through a company wide charity sale as well as used clothes and book donations to help the students at Wenquan School which is near to Lugu Lake.

In March and November 2010, volunteers also went to Wenquan School to visit the students there and provided ConocoPhillips’ Jelly Jam environmental education training. In August 2011, just before the school autumn semester started, staff in Tanggu donated RMB 2,579 (US400) and bought basic necessities for the Wenquan School.

Between 2010 July and December 2013, 30 COPC volunteers in Beijing joined the one-on-one education aid project and accumulatively donated RMB 157,283 (USD$25,000) to fund schooling for 20 students in poverty. The donation was made through Yongning Education Aid Center, a local grassroots non-profit organization.
