ConocoPhillips China was Awarded the “Outstanding CSR Project of 2022” at the 2022 China Corporate Citizens Forum

(Beijing) - On December 26, 2022, ConocoPhillips China (COPC) was awarded the “Outstanding CSR Project of 2022” at the 2022 China Corporate Citizens Forum for its series of programs aimed at supporting children with congenital heart disease (CHD). COPC’s CHD programs case study will also be included in the Road to Rural Revitalization in China (2022) Whitepaper.

COPC was awarded the “Outstanding CSR Project of 2022” at the 2022 China Corporate Citizens Forum.

The China Corporate Citizens Forum, hosted by the 21st Century Business Herald and Southern Finance Omni Media Corp., is a significant CSR recognition event in China. The award is another testament to COPC’s outstanding CSR efforts, following the “Best Annual Charity Project” award in the 2022 China Charity Ranking earlier this year.

“We are very grateful for this recognition. The CHD programs are our proudest CSR efforts in China. It is inspiring to see children getting back on their feet, returning to school, and starting a new life with COPC’s support,” said Bill Arnold, President of COPC. “In the future, we hope to continue contributing to China's public welfare and rural revitalization with concrete actions.”

Jiajia was born with CHD. In 2012, when she was one year old, she received surgery at the TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital with COPC funding. She recovered very quickly and she is now enjoying a healthy and happy life.

Since 2008, COPC has partnered with TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital to launch the “Heart for Heart” program, which provides financial support for underprivileged children born with CHD. As a part of this program, COPC has also donated an inter-provincial medical screening van to make CHD screening more accessible in remote areas nationwide.

“We sincerely congratulate COPC on this award," said Liu Xiaocheng, President of TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital. "COPC is one of our earliest and most committed partners. We will continue to work with COPC to double our efforts in screening and aiding children with CHD in remote areas in the hope of providing the timely treatment they deserve and benefiting more Chinese families."

In addition to funding CHD surgeries, COPC also focuses on the capacity building of domestic medical institutions. In 2013, the company partnered with Children’s HeartLink to launch the “Creating Hope for Hearts” program. The program funds three top CHD treatment medical institutions—West China Hospital, TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital, and the Qingdao Women and Children’s Hospital—to introduce advanced international medical resources and establish comprehensive pediatric treatment centers for CHD.

One volunteer nurse from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital (UK) is doing a demonstration in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Qingdao Women and Children’s Hospital.

“Congratulations to COPC on this well-deserved award,” said Jackie Boucher, President of Children’s HeartLink. “With their decade-long unwavering support, we can continue to train and mentor teams to develop comprehensive pediatric cardiac care programs in regions of southwestern, northern, and eastern China. More children with heart disease are receiving the care they need to survive and thrive thanks to the ongoing support we receive from COPC.”

Up to now, ConocoPhillips China has donated more than RMB 18 million to its congenital heart disease programs, directly helping over 600 children from 16 provinces and autonomous regions across China. In addition, the programs have trained over 1,500 cardiovascular medical professionals who have treated over 10,000 children across the country.

ConocoPhillips is one of the world’s largest independent exploration and production companies with operations and activities in 13 countries. As a committed partner in China since the early 1980s, ConocoPhillips remains one of the largest foreign investors in China’s upstream oil and gas sector. For over 40 years, ConocoPhillips has expanded its overall business scope in China across various fields, including oil and gas exploration and production, LNG supply, global supply chain services, and low-carbon energy development projects. As it continues its solid growth in China, COPC will remain committed to giving back to the communities in which it operates and creating lasting value for all stakeholders.
