Our History in the Bohai Sea

​Our contribution to China’s oil industry dates back to the 1980s, when Phillips became the first foreign company to make an offshore discovery in China in the South China Sea’s Pearl River Mouth Basin. A decade and a half later, with the discovery of Penglai 19-3, we began a journey which saw Penglai develop into China’s largest offshore oilfield.

ConocoPhillips’ successful development of the Bohai Sea is among the most important accomplishments in our history. We are proud that our expertise in complex offshore operations and our world-class health, safety and environment (HSE) practices have helped China produce the energy it needs to drive its vibrant economy.

Looking back over our 20 years as operator of the Penglai field, we can take a moment to reflect upon our many noteworthy accomplishments.
